Description

Since ancient times, people have looked up at the stars, trying to understand the structure of the universe. From countless myths and legends to Einstein’s theory of relativity, humanity has come a long way. In just over 2,000 years, we’ve moved from the idea of a flat Earth and the geocentric model to a modern understanding of the cosmos — sending humans into space, landing on the Moon, and now beginning the journey to conquer Mars.

The new HVILINA UNIVERSUM COSMOGRAPHIA collection continues to develop the concept of merging stylized star maps from different eras — from the geocentric model of the universe to our modern understanding of its structure. This time, however, it takes the idea even further with a more intricate and captivating interpretation, incorporating three-dimensional elements to create a deeper, more immersive cosmic experience.

Like the in previous UNIVERSUM collections, the design draws on one of the earliest surviving star maps, dating back to the 9th century, as a stylized representation of ancient knowledge about the structure of the universe and the geocentric model. This time, however, it is brought to life in the form of a 24-hour GMT hand positioned beneath the dial, visible through a window at the top. The design is further enhanced with original Latin inscriptions of the zodiac constellations, separated by capital letters.

Throughout the day, the full list of constellations and symbols from the ancient source gradually comes into view. Functionally, the GMT disc is divided into two sections: a light half representing daytime and a dark half representing nighttime.

At the lower part of the dial lies a three-dimensional model of a planetarium, representing a modern vision of the Universe. Stylized, sculptural planets of the Solar System rise above the dial without overshadowing it, appearing to float in space and immersing the viewer in an atmosphere of celestial harmony. The composition is brought to life with graphic representations of planetary orbits, while Saturn’s rings are highlighted as a distinct design element. The dial itself features guilloché engraving, adding depth through its finely textured surface.

Special attention has been given to the new style of indicators and hands, all designed in line with the cosmic theme and overall concept — from the shapes of the hands and the color palette to the typography used for the indicators.

The watch is powered by the reliable Miyota 9075 Premium Automatic movement, featuring 24 ruby stones, a 42-hour power reserve, and an accuracy of -10 to +30 seconds per day. The rotor is decorated with an engraving that complements the planetarium on the dial, depicting dwarf planets located beyond Neptune’s orbit.

The case of the new model, developed by HVILINA’s engineers and designers, features both technological and stylistic updates. While retaining the smooth contours of the previous models, it now includes a more prominent bezel engraved with HVILINA UNIVERSUM. The case back has also been completely redesigned. The case itself is made of stainless steel.

The front and caseback glass are made of sapphire, with the front glass featuring an internal anti-reflective coating. The watch comes standard with a quick-release rubber strap. Water resistance is rated at 50 meters. The collection is available in four color options, with a total of 500 pieces produced per color.

Additional options are available for an extra cost: the ability to choose a specific number from the limited series (available only during the early pre-order period), customization of the GMT disc design with your preferred zodiac sign highlighted in color, and an additional strap made of flat leather or with a crocodile skin pattern.
